Wow, what a beautifu1 blue colour, I must add this to my "must paint" list! Your comment about "pretend colours" in hybrids really strike a chord. It is exactly why I much prefer to paint species orchids and their true but unspectacular colours.

Your friend big tree with bellina is just amazing! Cool to also see a flower on this trunk. It's great so see that some seedlings have germinated and are growing on that tree. That's mean that nearby the pollinator of this species is also still alive. And more, the pods splitting from that tree may indeed produce new generations in the wild, that would be just great! 8-)

Wow! 5.5 inches. Those are huge. They are beautiful. I like the little species one. We have been growing more hybrids recently. Mainly because they are easier to grow and more showy.

Sorry to hear about the difficulties. We have slugs here but not as bad. We can control them by picking them off. We have a product that we use in the yard but not the greenhouse. It is called Sluggo. It is iron phosphate and is pretty effective. We haven't used it in the greenhouse. We use more toxic chemicals since the greenhouse is closed and pets and animals can not get in. We've also tried copper stripping along the benches but they seem to get around it.

Hope the rain ends soon and you get control of the slugs.

Oh by the way, it rains year round but there is much less rain in the dry months of June to August. Even so, these swamps never really dry out and the humidity level remains very high.

Lou, the leaves are dry but the roots and tree trunks are either wet or at least moist. Don't forget this is a swamp and the humidity level is 100%.
